After a misspent youth devoted to American Saddle Horses and horse shows, Jane’s attention turned to the wonderful, diverse world of dogs. She shared her life with a variety of breeds, but in 1994 she was immediately and totally captivated by the Portuguese Water Dog. Jane’s kennel, the nationally recognized and respected, Freestyle Portuguese Water Dogs, began in 2000. Since then the Freestyle name has appeared on the pedigree of dozens of breed Champions and working dogs. Her beloved Spencer, is one of the top PWDs in the country.
Jane and her home crew of PWDs are very active in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility and Watersports. Jane felt performance training was a must when she realized just how much exercise her first Portuguese required to keep him physically and mentally sound. It’s been quite a learning curve ever since. In the summer of 2007 Jane had the pleasure of teaming with her dog Allie while she earned a PWDCA Courier Excellent title, (the highest title given) and with, Spencer , while he earned his PWDCA Apprentice water title. As if that wasn’t enough for one summer, both Allie and Spencer earned CWS Team Swim Certificates through Canine Water Sports.
As an active member of the Nutmeg PWDC, her regional club, Jane has
