Student Level: Beginners.  This is a great place to start training your dog for watersports or to begin shaping a confident and useful K9 swim partner. Prerequisite: Dogs must have the desire and ability to swim.  Dogs will achieve faster if they have learned basic companion dog manners prior to this class.  See Splash for Joy Classes for dogs who need to improve swim desire and ability.

Course Description: Skills being introduced in this course include: obtaining a synchronized team swim through leadership games in progressively deeper water; building shore proximity confidence; building duration and distraction tolerance in the starter box and performing recalls into the water; “Sharking” (circling) swimmers; snaking through the slalom markers, building swim endurance and confidence through duration and intensity demands; and introduction to submersion work through island (platform) games.
